No. The two are commonly cross-referenced, but their copper ranges do not overlap: CW614N has 57–59 % copper, C36000 60–63 %. The closest UNS grade is C38500 (55–59 % copper, 2.5–3.5 % lead): it contains CW614N’s copper range, and the lead ranges overlap from 2.5 % (CW614N 2.2–3.5 % since EN 12164:2024); since its 2026 edition ASTM B455 lists both. The EN grade that matches C36000 is CW603N (60–62 % copper).
C38000. The limits of CW617N — 57–59 % copper, 1.6–2.2 % lead, tin and iron up to 0.3 %, aluminium up to 0.05 % — lie inside those of C38000, and ASTM B455 has listed both since its 2026 edition. C37700 forging brass is commonly cross-referenced for forging duty, but it overlaps CW617N only between 58 and 59 % copper.
JIS C3604 from JIS H3250. Its limits — 57.0–61.0 % copper and 1.8–3.7 % lead — contain those of CW614N, so a CW614N heat also meets C3604. The reverse is not automatic: a C3604 heat with 60 % copper or 2 % lead is not CW614N.
Equivalent (≡) means the EN grade’s copper and main-addition ranges lie inside the other grade’s; where two grades are commonly listed as one and a small difference remains, the table states it. A heat certified to the EN grade therefore also meets the other grade’s main limits, except for any difference the table states (a CW614N heat below 2.5 % lead, for example, is not C38500) — but not the reverse, and impurity limits can still differ. Compare the EN 10204 3.1 analysis with the grade named on the drawing before substituting.
ЛС58-3 in GOST 15527-2004 has the same copper range as CW614N (57.0–59.0 %) and 2.5–3.5 % lead, which lies inside CW614N’s 2.2–3.5 % (EN 12164:2024). The iron limit differs — up to 0.5 % in ЛС58-3 against 0.30 % for CW614N — so an ЛС58-3 heat needs its iron checked before it is accepted as CW614N.
BS 2874 has been replaced by the EN product standards. The nearest old BS grade for each EN rod grade is: CZ121Pb3 for CW614N, CZ122 for CW617N, CZ120 for CW608N, CZ128 for CW612N, CZ129 for CW611N, CZ124 for CW603N, CZ131 for CW606N, CZ132 for CW602N, CZ109 for CW509L, CZ135 for CW713R and CZ133 for CW719R. CW510L, CW625N and CW724R have no old BS counterpart, and no old BS grade is listed for CW607N. On new drawings, quote the EN number.
