DZR Leaded Brass — Potable Water

C35330

DZR Brass — CuZn36Pb2As-type / ASTM B453

The North American designation for arsenic-inhibited dezincification-resistant brass. 59.5–64% Cu with 1.5–3.5% Pb for machinability and 0.02–0.25% As to suppress dezincification in chlorinated and hard waters. UNS twin of CW602N (CZ132) — the standard DZR grade for water-fitting components.

Typical Applications
  • Potable-water fitting components — cartridge bodies, spindles, connectors
  • Components for chlorinated, soft, or high-chloride water systems
  • Hot and cold water distribution parts in UK/EU/AU spec markets
  • Gas and metering components requiring DZR
  • Machined parts to drawings that specify CZ132 / CW602N / C35330
Why choose C35330?

DZR protection with free-machining behaviour

  • Arsenic-inhibited DZR — resists dezincification in chlorinated and hard waters, qualified per ISO 6509-1
  • Pb 1.5–3.5% — machines at roughly 62% of the free-cutting benchmark, far better than unleaded DZR alternatives
  • ASTM B453 standardised — the UNS designation US and Asian drawings use for arsenical DZR brass
  • UNS twin of CW602N / CZ132 — one metallurgy covers UK, EU, AU and US DZR specs
  • Proven in water fittings — decades of service history in hot/cold water distribution

Frequently Asked Questions

C35330 — common questions

What is C35330 brass?

C35330 is an arsenical, leaded DZR (dezincification-resistant) brass per ASTM B453 — 59.5–64% copper, 1.5–3.5% lead for machinability, and 0.02–0.25% arsenic to suppress dezincification. It is the UNS designation for the same metallurgy as CW602N (CZ132), the standard grade for water-fitting components.

What is the EN (CW) equivalent of C35330?

The EN equivalent is CW602N (CuZn36Pb2As); the legacy British designation is CZ132. The same bar stock typically certifies to either designation — we confirm the certificate wording at quotation.

How does arsenic make C35330 dezincification resistant?

Small arsenic additions (0.02–0.25%) inhibit the selective leaching of zinc from the alpha phase in chlorinated or high-chloride waters. Combined with the correct heat treatment, the alloy passes the ISO 6509-1 CuCl₂ dezincification test. Specify the qualification on your drawing — chemistry alone does not guarantee DZR.

Is C35330 suitable for drinking water systems?

Its DZR behaviour is designed for water contact, but it is a leaded grade — fine where local rules permit leaded DZR brass (much of the UK/EU/AU market), not for US wetted parts under NSF/ANSI 372. End-product approval is the product maker's responsibility; for lead-free DZR specify C69300 or CW724R.
