Switchgear & Distribution — Frequently Asked Questions

What switchgear and electrical parts can Brassland machine?
Copper busbars and bars, busbar connectors and joints, neutral and earth bars/links, contact bridges and blades, terminal-block screws, arc-chamber inserts, earthing terminals, cable-entry glands and ferrules, and threaded inserts, standoffs and pins — all turned and milled to your drawing for LV and MV switchgear and distribution boards.
Which materials do you use for switchgear parts?
C11000 (Cu-ETP) copper for current-carrying busbars, bars and terminals, C14500 tellurium copper for free-machined high-conductivity contact and terminal parts, and CW617N / CW614N brass for connector bodies, earthing terminals and mechanical parts. RoHS 2 compliant; the grade is fixed on your approved drawing.
Can you supply copper busbars cut, drilled and plated to size?
Yes — flat and laminated C11000 busbars and bars are cut, drilled, bent/formed and tin- or silver-plated to your current rating and drawing; forming beyond our in-house capacity is done with qualified partners.
What plating do you offer for contacts and busbars?
Tin and silver plating for contact and busbar surfaces (tin is standard), plus nickel and electroless-nickel. Specify plating thickness and any contact-resistance requirement at quotation.
Do you machine threaded inserts and standoffs for moulded housings?
Yes — press-in, heat-set and knurled brass inserts for moulded breaker and panel housings, hex standoffs, insulator studs and turned terminal/connector pins, all to your drawing.
How tight are the tolerances you can hold?
Swiss-type sliding-head turning typically holds about ±0.01 mm on critical diameters, threads and seats, with tighter limits achievable by process where the drawing requires it.
Do your parts carry equipment approvals?
We machine components to your specification; switchgear type testing and equipment approval (e.g. IEC 60947, IEC 61439) are carried out by the panel or equipment manufacturer placing the finished product on the market.
Can you work from a sample if we don't have a CAD drawing?
Yes. Send a physical sample or a marked-up sketch and we will produce a manufacturing drawing for your written approval before cutting metal; the approved drawing then governs production and inspection.
What documentation do you provide with each shipment?
EN 10204 Type 3.1 mill certificates as standard (Type 3.2 third-party witnessed on request), a Certificate of Conformity and dimensional inspection reports, plus RoHS and REACH/SVHC declarations with commercial orders. Brassland is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
What are your minimum order quantity and lead times?
There is no strict minimum order quantity; first orders typically start from around 1,000 pieces, and we support high-volume OEM production. Typical lead time is 3–5 weeks from the approved drawing, with prototypes and samples available sooner. Quotations are issued within 24 hours.
