| UNS / ASTM (USA) | C35300 — ASTM B453 (rod, bar, wire, shapes), ASTM B121 (plate, sheet, strip, rolled bar) |
| EN — equivalent | CW606N / CuZn37Pb2 (Cu 61.0–62.0, Pb 1.6–2.5, Fe ≤0.20) — see note |
| BS (UK legacy) | CZ131 — nearest old BS grade of CW606N (also of CW601N) |
| UNS — higher-lead grade | C36000 free-cutting brass, ASTM B16 (Cu 60–63, Pb 2.5–3.0) |
| ASTM B453 sibling | C35330 — arsenical, dezincification-resistant; EN CW602N |
C35300 is the high-leaded brass (62 %) of the UNS system: 60.0–63.0 % copper (61.0 % minimum for rod), 1.5–2.5 % lead, iron up to 0.15 % (0.10 % for flat products), balance zinc. ASTM B453 covers rod, bar, wire and shapes, ASTM B121 plate, sheet, strip and rolled bar. Typical uses are clock and watch parts, key blanks, screw-machine parts, gears, valve stems, faucet parts and pipe fittings.
ASTM B453 describes C35300 rod as suited to parts that are machined extensively and then cold-formed — swaged, flared, severely knurled or thread-rolled; for rod in screw-machine work it refers to ASTM B16, the specification of C36000. C35300 has 1.5–2.5 % lead against 2.5–3.0 % for C36000, and their machinability ratings are 90 and 100.
They are equivalents, with one limit to check. The copper (61.0–62.0 %) and lead (1.6–2.5 %) ranges of CW606N (CuZn37Pb2) lie inside those of C35300 — 60.0–63.0 % copper (61.0 % minimum for rod) and 1.5–2.5 % lead — but CW606N allows up to 0.20 % iron where C35300 stops at 0.15 %. Before substituting one for the other, compare the EN 10204 3.1 analysis of the heat with the limits of the grade on your drawing.
It is not a forging grade: its capacity for hot forming is rated poor and its cold workability fair. Common processes are blanking, machining, piercing and punching, roll threading and knurling, and stamping. For hot-forged parts, forging brasses such as C37700 or CW617N are used.
For RoHS, its 1.5–2.5 % lead is covered by Annex III exemption 6(c), which allows up to 4 % lead in copper alloys and is currently valid to 30 June 2027. For drinking-water contact it is not suitable: NSF/ANSI 372 limits the weighted lead content of wetted surfaces to 0.25 %. Lead-free options on this site include the silicon brass C69300 / CW724R and the bismuth brass C6802.
