Frequently asked

Brass products — common questions

Specification, sourcing and manufacturing answers for engineers and buyers.

What's the difference between your standard catalogue parts and custom parts?
Standard parts — brass nuts, threaded inserts, hex standoffs, set screws and screw plugs — are manufactured to published DIN and ISO dimensions, so you can specify them by part number. Custom parts are made to your own 2D or 3D drawing in the brass, copper or aluminium alloy your application requires. Browse the standard catalogue or send a drawing for custom manufacturing.
Which brass alloys do you machine, and how do I choose?
We machine and forge 19 certified grades. CW617N (CuZn40Pb2) is the standard choice for nuts and fittings; CW614N (CuZn39Pb3) for high-volume CNC and inserts; CW724R (CuZn21Si3P) and C6802 for dezincification-resistant potable-water parts; and C11000 (Cu-ETP) where maximum electrical conductivity matters. See the alloy table above or the full materials library and alloy guide.
Can you manufacture a part from my drawing? What file formats do you accept?
Yes. Send a 2D or 3D drawing — AutoCAD .dwg/.dxf, STEP/.stp, IGES/.igs, or a dimensioned PDF — and we respond within 24–48 hours with a quote and material recommendation. Parts are made to the drawing and tolerances you supply; final approval of the design for its application remains the buyer's responsibility. Send your drawing →
What manufacturing processes and tolerances are available?
Three core processes: CNC bar turning and milling across 79+ machines (Ø3–Ø200 mm), high-precision Swiss-type turning on 28+ machines (Ø2–Ø32 mm, to ±0.005 mm), and hot forging for complex near-net shapes — forging is brass-only and outsourced to partner forge houses, then machined, finished and inspected in-house. Achievable tolerance depends on the process and feature; we confirm it against your drawing at quotation. Explore manufacturing capabilities →
Are your products RoHS and REACH compliant?
Yes. Brassland operates ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 management systems (DQS-certified) and supplies parts compliant with EU RoHS 2 (2011/65/EU) and REACH, with Article 33 SVHC disclosure on request. Leaded brass grades are supplied under RoHS Annex III Exemption 6(c) where applicable. See the compliance centre.
Do you supply lead-safe / DZR brass for drinking-water applications?
Yes. For potable water we machine dezincification-resistant, low-lead grades such as CW724R (CuZn21Si3P) and C6802, suitable for parts that need to meet US NSF/ANSI 372 wetted-lead limits and EU Drinking Water Directive requirements. Confirm the target approval (e.g. WRAS, DVGW, NSF 61) at the quotation stage so we select and document the correct alloy.
What certificates ship with an order?
Each shipment is released against an EN 10204 Type 3.1 inspection certificate as standard; Type 3.2 (third-party witnessed) is available on request. Mill certificates, RoHS/REACH declarations and dimensional inspection records are provided with the documentation pack. See certifications.
